Notes
Some scholars have seen a stylistic and compositional connection with Camille Pissarro's self-portrait of 1873 (Musée d'Orsay) and his portrait of Cézanne from 1874 (on loan to National Gallery, London). Cézanne's pose in his self-portrait also resembles an etching of the artist by Pissarro from the same year. The copperplate is illustrated in Rewald (1996), p. 186, showing the etching in reverse.
